Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Equipment at Outdoors Ramsey

Preparing for your Duke of Edinburgh’s Award expedition? Whether you’re working towards Bronze, Silver or Gold, having suitable outdoor equipment can help you feel comfortable, organised and ready for the journey.

At Outdoors Ramsey, Isle of Man, we stock walking footwear, waterproof clothing, camping equipment and outdoor essentials to help you prepare for your expedition.

Start with Comfortable Walking Footwear

You’ll spend plenty of time on your feet, so choosing footwear that fits well is an important part of your preparation. Think about comfort, support and the terrain you’ll be walking across.

Try your footwear with the socks you plan to wear, and use it on practice walks before your expedition to check the fit and identify any rubbing.

Prepare for Changing Weather

The Isle of Man’s weather can change quickly. A waterproof jacket, suitable waterproof trousers and practical layers can help you stay comfortable as conditions change.

Choose clothing that allows you to move freely, and keep a dry change of clothes protected inside your rucksack.

Get Your Camping Essentials Together

For an overnight expedition, your kit needs to cover walking, camping and preparing meals. Use your expedition provider’s kit list to check what you need, including:

• A suitable rucksack with waterproof protection for its contents

• A sleeping bag and sleeping mat

• A tent and cooking equipment, as agreed with your group

• A water bottle and suitable food

• A head torch and personal essentials

Before buying shared equipment, check what your school or expedition organiser supplies and what your group will carry together.

Bring Your Kit List to Outdoors Ramsey

Getting equipped can feel like a big task, especially for your first expedition. Bring your Duke of Edinburgh’s Award kit list into Outdoors Ramsey and our team can help you explore suitable options and check what you still need.

Always follow your expedition leader’s guidance on equipment requirements, including footwear, sleeping bag specifications and cooking systems.
